Monitoring and Evaluation
Research and evaluations are important tools in measuring performance and results of programmes.
There are several types of evaluations that can be conducted to assess different aspects of a program or policy. For instance, country program evaluations are conducted to assess the overall impact of a program in a particular country. Strategic plan evaluations assess the effectiveness of the strategic plan in achieving its objectives, while evaluability assessments determine the feasibility of conducting an evaluation.
Ex-Ante evaluations are conducted before the implementation of a program to assess its feasibility and potential impact, while formative evaluations or process evaluations are conducted during the implementation phase to assess the program’s processes and identify areas for improvement. Impact evaluations are conducted to assess the program’s overall impact on its target population, while meta-evaluations assess the quality and effectiveness of previous evaluations.
Other types of evaluations include portfolio evaluations, program reviews, real-time evaluations, summative evaluations, ex-post evaluations, thematic evaluations, tracer studies, and value for money analysis. Each type of evaluation serves a unique purpose and can provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of a program or policy.
